airlines could be on the horizon. >> kim dacey joins us live from federal hill with more on what this will mean for the airport and baltimore. >> southwest is the largest air carrier in baltimore. one economist says the announcement will mean good things for baltimore and bwi southwest airlines is the largest carrier for bwi, running 140 flights out of baltimore. a merger between southwest and airtran will mean more flights and more passengers. passengers will spend more money on things like parking and a food. that translates into more money for the city and state. >> there could be benefits for hotels if baltimore is a more convenient destination. convention planners will choose hotels here. that is good news. >> there are still some unanswered questions about the deal. no decisions have been made about eliminating employees. there will likely be job losses on the corporate level. more jobs could come to baltimore. >> southwest gets bigger at bwi. there are more flights. more flights mean more people needed to book the flights, to help passengers, including screening them throu

two weeks ago. >>> nbc's white house correspondent savannah guthrie joins us. >> reporter: the voters that voted for the first time in 2008 for the president, a lot of them are young, we're going to see the president on the campus of the united states of wisconsin at madison. there will be 100 companion watch parties, really drawing a page from the '08 playbook. if democrats can turn out some of these voters, it might make a difference in some of these key races. they're really trying to generate enthusiasm. in an interview the president said it would be inexcusable for democrats to stay on the sidelines this election. rahm emanuel widely expected to run for mayor in chicago. looks like that will happen and we could get an announcement as early as friday. the issue of course is who would replace him, would it be an interim chief of staff or will the president go ahead and name a permanent replacement. so definitely something to watch this week. >>> today a senate panel holds a summit on safety after an explosion that killed sen people. >>> southwest is buying air transfer $1.4 billion

is in washington, d.c. live with us this morning with the latest. good morning to you, tracie. >> veronica, good morning. what you'll see this week will take auto a very distinct campaign-like feel, the white house trying to bring back what worked for them two years ago during the presidential campaign. the president swinging through several states over the next two days with two goals -- to energize young voters and to sell his economic plan. part of that plan was helping small businesses. we saw that as he signed the small business plan into law yesterday creating a $30 billion fund to give them more money to free up money for these businesses to expand and hire workers. today, president obama takes his message to albuquerque, new mexico, where he'll continue a series of backyard meetings with voters and have a big rally at the university of wisconsin later on tonight. as we get closer to the election, we're seeing the administration get much more aggressive in tone and message, by vice president biden saying to republicans stop whining and look for some alternatives out there. president obama

. things have dried out now for us in baltimore. we still have higher than normal waves. a coastal flood advisory is in effect until 9:00 tonight. we are going to be improving as the afternoon progresses. we will be clearing throughout the afternoon. winds will be variable. it is still very mild out there, a 76-81 degrees. by the afternoon, waves could be churning up to 3 feet. 74 is the normal high for today. we are a little off the mark as far as that goes. it is still very mild. 91 degrees is the record set back in 1981. tonight's forecast gives us partly cloudy skies. things are getting quieter overnight and into the day tomorrow. it will be much cooler as far as temperatures go with light northwest winds. areas of low pressure are the impetus for all of this energy. there is a tornado watch from pennsylvania to new york. we are just below that strong a line of storms that came through that area earlier on. we have another system that is originating in the tropics. that is going to cause us problems later on in the week. this is a tropical depression no. 16. fors moving at a clipp ex
